What is Hyperacidity:  When HCl (Hydrochloric acid=Pachak Pitta ) increases means more than normal, present in the stomach that situation become Hyperacidity. The parietal cell produces stomach HCl to digest protein or fat. Primarily functions of HCL to facilitate lipid digestion. Stress and heavy spicy hot food are responsible for hyperacidity or Indigestion.

Hyperacidity in Ayurveda 

Amla Pitta is known as Hyperacidity, when pachak pitta (Hydrochloric acid) excessive amount in the stomach, due to weak digestion (Mandagni= Weak Digestion) swallow food become Vidagdha paka and cause vidaha or burning sensation.

Amla is a good single ayurvedic herb which is used in different ayurvedic medicine ( Chyawanprash, Dhatri lauh, Dhatrayadi ghrit and Trifala Churna) for various ailments like acid reflux, Raktpitta, Amla-pitta, Prameh, and Daha.
English name - Indian gooseberry, Sanskrit name - Amalki, Latin name - Phyllanthus Emblica Linn, Hindi name - Amla. It is good herb for Hyperacidity.
  • It helps for reducing the burning sensation of the stomach to the throat by pacifies Pitta or acid present in the stomach, It is a good antacid to treat heartburn.

Vasaka or Vasa
Latin name-Adhatoda zeylanica Medicus, Justicia adhatoda Linn. Hindi name - Arusa, English Name- Malabar Nut Tree, Sanskrit Name- Vasa, Tamil name- Adhatodai.

Adhatoda Vasica is an ayurvedic herb that contains Vasicine 1% and Alkaloids 1% as an active ingredient.

Leaves of Adhatoda Vasica contain quinazoline alkaloid called vasicine (Peganine).

It has antitussive, anti-inflammatory, and Bronchidiltory action.Botanical name of Adusa (vasaka) is Adhatoda Vasica is widely used in Bronchitis Asthma, cough and hyperacidity or acid reflux. 

Part used leaves, flower, and bark mentioned in the Ayurvedic text.It is very effective in Acidity or acid reflux when mixed with other ayurvedic herbs like Amla, Bhringraj, Mulethi, Shatawari etc....

Bhringraj

Latin name - Eclipta alba Hassk. , Sanskrit name - Bhringraj or Keshraj (King of Hair), Hindi name - Bhangra or Bhangraiya, Arabic name - Kadimulambit, Common name - False Daisy 

Bhringraj is a wonderful plant so many medicinal benefits like act as soaking agent thus reduces acidity and gastritis.Significant results come out who use this herb in the form of liquid ( the whole plant used).
So many Ayurvedic formulations used this herb for different types of ailment like hyperchlorhydria, hair fall, liver disorder, anti-Inflammatory, debility, Diuretic, and Rasayan etc.

Shatavari

Latin name - Asparagus racemosus Wild., Sanskrit name - Shatmuli or shatawari or shatvirya, Hindi name - Satavar, Marathi name- Shatawari, Telugu name- Challa gadda, Kannada name - majjige-gadde.

Found in all part of India and four thousand feet height in Himalaya. 

Shatavari is a pitta-pacifier, cold in nature, vipak-Madhur, and vata-pitta shamak.The root of Asparagus racemosus is beneficial in Amla-Pitta or dyspepsia, gastric or stomach ulcers, Satavar is a good mother milk promoter (galactagogue), female tonic, and it is a good reproductive enhancer.

Specific Preparation - Shatawari ghrit , Narayan taila, Vishnu tail , Shatmulyadi lauh , Shatawari panak.

Yashtimadhu or Mulethi

Latin name -  Glycyrrhiza glabra Linn., Sanskrit name - Yastimadhu or Madhuk or klitak, Hindi name - Mulethi, Marathi name-Jeshtimadh, Telugu name- Yashtimadhukam or Athimadhuramu, Arabic name - Asl al-Soos or  Aslussus, English name - Licorice  or Liquorice , Tamil name - Atimaturam.

Yashtimadhu has various medicinal uses like hair disease, anti-inflammatory, Emesis, blood impurities, Cough and dyspnoea, mouth ulcer etc.... 

In Pachan Sansthan karma (Digestive System use) it is used in stomach hyperacidity (Amashaya gat Amla-adhikya), also relieves in peptic ulcer (Amashayic-Varna) and Udar shool (stomach pain).

Its ingredient is trikatu (Sunthi, Pippali, and Marich), Triphala (Haritaki, Vibhitak, and Amla), Motha, Vidnamak, Vaividang, Ilaichi, Tejpat each one-one tola,lavang 11 tolas and Nisoth 44 Tolas and 66 tolas sharkara.

Dosage : 3 gm twice daily with water or as directed by physician

Leela Vilas Ras

This Ayurvedic Ras preparation is beneficial in Shool, Vaman, and Heartburn.

Ingredients:Sudh parad , Sudh gandhak , Abhrak bhasm , Tamra bhasm , Lauh bhasm , Amla swaras and kwath , baheda kwath , bhringraj kwath.
